People suffering terribly deaths, or died in extreme emotion usually stay behind in spirit form. They can, if strong enough or when feeding off of someone's energy touch objects and move them. Weaker spirits can only been seen by living people. Vampires and witches can always see spirits, even those too weak to show themselves to humans.
